DIY AROMATHERAPY BODY WASH

thebeautymascot/DIY Aromatherapy body wash

My life has been so chaotic lately, I was not feeling well, both mentally and physically. I am a Gemini, I think a lot! So by just trying not to think, which obviously is difficult for me, I have managed to stay positive and happy. Which means I am back on track. But my body still needs some extra something. And if I tell you about today, you probably don’t want me to explain everything so basically, I was feeling so tired. So before I unwind this da, I thought maybe I should get a great relaxing bath. It always helps!

But when I went through the ingredient list of my favourite Aromatherapy body wash….Oh Gosh! The list of chemicals used is even longer than the other good ingredients. Today I wasn’t ready for some extra sh*t hence I ditched it, for the time being, of course. I cannot fully do it, I am an addict you know 😛 but at least once in a while, I like to go all natural, and give my skin and body something like a detox and today I decided to make a DIY aromatherapy body wash with all great ingredients minus the chemicals. And I am really happy with the end product.

And this one costs far less than any body washes you get in the market and it is really easy to make. So easy! You just need to have some few things.

If you are interested then please continue reading.

This is how you make the Aromatherapy DIY body wash

  • In a stainless steel saucepan, take distilled water and bring it to a low boil.
  • Next, grate the castile soap and stir in the grated soap into the boiling water. Over low flame, stir until the soap is melted.
  • After removing from heat add glycerine, almond oil, jojoba oil and other essential oils and finally aloe vera gel. You can either add vegetable glycerin or aloe vera gel. You can also skip both if you don’t have it at home. The two ingredients are added to make our body wash thick.
  • Let the mixture sit undisturbed until is cooled.
  • And that’s how you make your very own Aromatherapy DIY body wash! Use it as you would normally use any body washes/shower gels. Just remember to shake well before using.

Few things to remember

  • You can use liquid castile soap instead of the castile soap bar. It is even easier when you use liquid castile soap. Just add all the other ingredients except distilled water and shake well.I didn’t have liquid castile soap today, I had the soap bar. Moreover, castile soap bars are cheaper than liquid ones.
  • If you don’t have all the essential oils, you can customise and add the ones you have.
  • You can check out the recipe for a very basic DIY body wash recipe here. This recipe needs only a very few ingredients.
  • I normally stock up my essential oils. I buy when I spot them in some stores or get it online. To make things easier for you, I have added links to make it easier for you guys. Hence this post contains affiliate links which means, if you make a purchase by clicking on the links, I get a very small referral fee at no cost to you.
  • Make sure the water you use is distilled as normal tap water will contain bacteria which will reduce the shelf life of the DIY body wash.
  • This body wash has a shelf life up to one year.
  • But the ingredients might separate so make sure you shake well before each use.

THE FACE SHOP CERAMIDE COLLAGEN FACE MASK REVIEW

thebeautymascot/thefaceshopceramide

When someone says Korea, the first thing that comes to our mind (apart from the Korean dramas and the cute actors) is the beautiful skin of the people there. We have been constantly trying to figure out the secret to their flawless skin and have  been introduced to a lot of Korean brands now. One such popular brand  is The face shop. Today I am going to review the Ceramide collagen face mask from the face shop.

The Face shop claims

A salon perfect facial from the comfort of home. This convenient mask powder for all skin types hydrates for a salon perfect facial from the comfort of home. Formulated with Ceramide and botanical collagen, this pack hardens to seal out air, leaving skin firm and hydrated.

Ingredients

Diatomaceous earth, Algin, Kaolin, Magnesuium Carbonate, Potassium Carbonate, Bentonite, Cellulose Gum, Alcohol, Ceramide 3, Soluble Collagen, Methyl Paraben, Phenoxyethanol, Allantoin, CI 7163, Propyl Paraben, Laminaria Japonica Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Extract.

My review about the face shop ceramide collagen face mask

I bought this face mask when I was pregnant along with some other face masks and totally forgot about it, until recently when my husband discovered it from somewhere . So I decided to use this face mask mainly because it was almost reaching the expiry date. After using the mask I am really impressed with the results, I must say. Lets get straight to the review.

The packaging is really simple, comes in a see through packet. Once you open the mask remember to store the leftover powder is a dry glass jar or anything similar rather than storing it in the pack itself. This ensures your product stays nice and dry for a longer time. The face mask comes in a powder form and is really very easy to prepare. All you have to do is mix the mask powder in warm water and make a paste out of it. The packaging says to prepare the mask in the ratio of 1:2.5 ,ie, 1 part mask powder to 2.5 parts water, but I think that ratio does not work because the mask formed is so thick and lumpy. You have to add water at least in the ratio of 1:3 or add more water to get the desired consistency. But remember don’t add too much water as it will be a little difficult to peel off the mask later, a thick paste is what you need.

thebeautymascot/thefaceshopceramide

While adding water, there are chances of lumps being formed so you have to take care of that. Once the mask is ready, apply this onto your clean face. Remember to apply the mask immediately after preparing it because otherwise the mask will solidify . The reason why the mask hardens fast is to lock moisture. So apply a thick layer of mask as soon as you can and keep it on for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes the mask will be dry and hardened. The next thing you have to do is peel off the mask. The mask comes off really easily, if you have applied a thick layer. The dried mask is kind of rubbery, which I find funny.

The mask has quite a strong floral scent, which reminds me of a room freshener we had when I was a small kid. I don’t have any problem with the smell, but let me remind you the smell is quite dominant so if you are someone who hate strong scents in your mask, then this one is not for you.

This face mask from TFS contains some awesome ingredients, two main ingredients in the mask are Ceramide 3 which helps to keep the skin moist and supple, and Collagen which helps to reduce the signs of aging such as wrinkles  and fine lines. But this mask contains parabens which is definitely a drawback.

Now you ask me the results. I was truly ahh-mazed by the results. I expected my skin to be moisturized, which was true. But to my surprise my skin also felt tight, I could also feel my otherwise wide open pores to be tight and closed. It did not brighten my skin though, which I really did not expect. But my skin felt smoother, softer and so tight! Yay! I really didn’t think of writing a review about this face mask from the face shop, I haven’t even taken proper pictures to be honest, but the results were so good I had to share with you guys. The price of the face mask is another plus, so affordable.

Overall verdict

I really like the Salon effect Ceramide collagen face mask from the face shop. It really did give a salon-like effect to my skin which felt soft, plump, hydrated and firm. It also made my pores less visible and the results lasted a few days. This mask is for all skin types but particularly good for people with dry/matured skin. I will rate it 4.8/5,Highly Recommended!

DIY SHEA BUTTER BODY SCRUB

thebeautymascot/shea

I am a real fan of shea butters. I use it for my face, hair, lips, body, feet and hands. Sometimes for moisturizing, sometimes for healing various skin issues ;sometimes alone sometimes along with other ingredients; shea butter is one amazing product! I have used shea butter body scrub (no, not homemade but from a very good brand) in the past and I love it! But I keep on trying and experimenting with different products and diy’s so I use some others at the moment.  But a few days back I really missed my shea butter body scrub so I thought  instead of buying it I should make it at home. So I went through the ingredient list of my favorite shea butter body scrub for inspiration (Please don’t use the word copying,!) and made my own shea butter body scrub at home! (more…)

ALTERNATIVES TO MAKEUP REMOVER OR DIY MAKEUP REMOVERS

Don’t just remove your makeup, let your skin benefit from it!

thebeautymascot/diymakeupremover

Applying makeup has therapeutic effects to most of us girls. If you don’t trust me,try this, when your angry or sad instead of that adult coloring books which is trending so much now, try applying some good lipstick (your favorite shade), or even better go for a full make up, it can instantly make you forget everything else! But I don’t think we feel the same about removing it! Removing your makeup is one heck of a job, especially those water proof ones! Some things don’t even want to get off our face, like this liquid lipstick I have reviewed some days back. And we all know it is a crime to go to sleep with your make up on (haha). Seriously removing makeup is so important for your skin to remain healthy. Otherwise using all the homemade masks or expensive skin care products will not show any results. I am not intending to say more about all it because we always get this advice from one and all. Moreover if I start, I will have to dedicate an entire post on it. So lets just talk about make up removers. Which is your favorite make up remover? What do you do when you run out of your favorite makeup remover? Do you choose any substitutes or diy makeup removers? (more…)

LAVENDER AND HONEY FACIAL TONER

thebeutymascot/lavender and honey facial toner

Years back, before getting into some serious skincare routine, toner was something which I thought was unnecessary for my skin. I didn’t want to use too many products on my skin back then. Later on when I realized toner is essential for skincare I started trying out so many of the store-bought toners, from almost every range from most brands. But to be frank I was not really happy about any of them. So after that I started using toners which I made at home. The best part about the toners I make are that I I can customize according to my skin needs and also I can use ingredients which I already have at home  . And they work really well! Seriously! So today I am going to tell you about one of my favorite homemade toners, lavender and honey facial toner.

Why use toners on face

Before getting into the lavender and honey facial toner, I thought it would be a good idea to start with why use toners on your face, I mean any toners. So lets start with this first. But if you already know why and you just want to know about the lavender and honey facial toner, you are welcome to scroll down and read just the part you want. So what toners basically do to your skin is:

  • It moisturizes.
  • It refreshes your skin.
  • Balances the pH level.
  • Leaves your skin softer and smoother.

The lavender and honey facial toner

So let get into our topic now. The lavender and honey facial toner is one of my favorite toners, like I said. You might have already guessed the two main ingredients by now, lets find out what other ingredients you need and how much.

You need:

  • 1/2 tbsp of honey.
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar.
  • 1/2 cup water.
  • 3-4 drops of lavender essential oil.

How to make the lavender and honey facial toner

If you are using raw honey (that’s best) you have to add about two tablespoons of warm water to dissolve the honey. To this stir in the ACV , water and finally the lavender essential oil. Transfer this to a bottle. And its done!

You can use any other essential oils and prepare the facial toners of your choice by the same method. For example, you can use tea tree oil to prepare your own tea tree facial toner, my other favorite. Or you can just make a very simple facial toner by using juice from one lemon and 1/2 cup water or the ACV facial toner by using 1 part ACV to three parts water.

How to use the lavender and honey facial toner

After you are done cleansing your face, take the toner on a cotton pad and apply it on your face and neck. Or if you are using the spritzing bottle, just spray the facial toner on your face and then follow with your normal skincare routine. This is not just for the lavender and honey facial toner, this method is for using any toners in general.

The benefits of using the lavender and honey facial toner

I have already mentioned the benefits of using toners but this particular facial toner helps in treating acne, and in boosting the renewal of skin apart from the other benefits of using toners like leaving your skin fresher, younger, softer smoother and moisturized.

So what do you think about the lavender and honey facial toner? Or do you have any other favorite facial toners? Please comment below and let me know about it.

28 WAYS TO REMOVE BLACKHEADS

the beauty mascot

We all know what black heads are. But since I have to give a small introduction to it, I am writing a few things about what are blackheads, but you are most welcome to skip the part and head on to the ways to get rid of blackheads. But if you are someone like me who likes to understand the culprit better before execution (Don’t worry I am speaking about blackheads ,just trying to be a little dramatic) then stay and read it completely. Trust me, its a very small one. Even if you skip the introduction part, don’t miss out the preventive measures section because prevention is definitely better than cure!

What are blackheads

Blackheads are small, black spots that appear on your skin, mainly on your nose and chin. These blackheads (also known as open comedones) are caused when the pores become blocked because of sebum and dead skin. These are primarily yellow in color but gets oxidized when exposed to the air and turns black. So basically whiteheads and blackheads are the same. The whiteheads (closed comedones) are the ones that do not come in contact with the air.

Common causes of black heads are stress, hormonal changes, cosmetics, no proper cleaning of the skin, smoking, caffeine and alcohol. Those genes also play a major role in causing blackheads.

Remember: When heating the mixture in the microwave, do not bring it to a boil. Just heat it. Make sure the mixture is not too hot before applying on your face. Applying a toner containing salicylic acid is very beneficial to your skin, not just in removing blackheads, but also removes excess oil, reduce acne and tighten pores. You can use natural ones too.

Check out one easy diy toner HERE.

27. Products containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid

When choosing your facial cleansers and other products, try to find out products containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide as active ingredient to keep blackheads at bay.

28. Pore strips and other extracting tools

You need:

  • Pore strips or
  • Extracting tool

Steam your face first to open pores and loosen blackheads. Then if you are using pore strips place the strip on affected areas and keep it for 10-15 minutes and then peel it off. If you are using extracting tool, then remove blackheads by applying slight pressure. But remember whichever method you choose, do not squeeze. Since squeezing is required when using extracting tool, I recommend not using this method!

Preventive measures

  • DO NOT squeeze or pop blackheads, this will worsen the situation.
  • While exfoliating is a great method to remove blackheads, make sure to scrub gently.
  • Wash your face twice daily.
  • Always use clean pillow cases.
  • Do not touch your face.
  • Remove your make up completely before going to bed.
  • Keep your face clean.
  • Avoid close clothing and cosmetics that block your skin.
  • Sweat it out, but not too much because too much sweating can also cause blackheads.

Hope you find out the best method to get rid of blackheads (which works best for you). Stay beautiful!

TURMERIC FACE MASK FOR CLEAR SKIN

The good old turmeric can do wonders to your skin…

the beauty mascot

Turmeric has been used in various parts of the world for beauty treatments from centuries. Turmeric has its origin in the South-Asia and is now used in almost everywhere in the world. Turmeric is widely used in many cuisines like Indian.Turmeric has many health and beauty benefits. Including turmeric in your diet can help in weight-loss, preventing cancer, boosts immunity, controls cholesterol and diabetes( to mention a few).

When it comes to skincare, turmeric is your life-saver. It has  many beauty benefits. So it is a great idea to include turmeric in your food. You can also apply it externally  as face masks, scrubs or any other form which works for you. One thing which I like the most about turmeric is that you can use it not only for your face but also for your entire body. In India, women apply turmeric to the entire body as a pre-marital beauty treatment and also after pregnancy to treat all the pregnancy related skin issues. It is believed that many Bollywood actresses also do the turmeric beauty treatments.

Turmeric face mask

There are many ways you can use turmeric. But in this post I am talking about one of my favorite ways of using turmeric. This is not just my favorite, the mask is so effective. So lets get into details about the turmeric face mask.

You need:

1 tbsp turmeric powder.

2 tbsp chick pea flour.

2 tbsp yogurt.

1 tbsp honey.

I normally grind my own turmeric powder from the dried out roots. In India, turmeric is widely available (both powder and roots, even the fresh ones). Some cultivate their own turmeric at home. If you can get your hands on the homely made ones, its superb. You have to dry it out in the sun to grind it to a fine powder. We also use the fresh ones in our skin care (not getting into details about it). If you can’t find it, no problem you can use the powder which can be easily found in any Indian grocery stores.

Remember: I have used 1 tbsp of turmeric powder, you can use a little bit more if you like, not more than that because turmeric can cause a burning sensation.

If you don’t have chick pea flour you can swap it for rice flour.

the beauty mascot

How to prepare turmeric face mask

Measure and take all the ingredients in a bowl. Mix it really well to form a smooth paste. The paste should not be too runny as well as too thick. It should be somewhere in between.

To apply:  After cleansing your face and neck, apply the mask using a brush or with your finger tips. Let it stay there for about 20 minutes or until the mask dries out and becomes stiff. After 20 minutes, moisten the mask once again using warm water and massage the face with the mask, to give your face a slight exfoliation. Then rinse off with cold water. You will see instant results. Now, do not forget to apply your daily moisturizer.

Remember: We know turmeric can give a yellow color to anything it comes in contact with. So do not wear light colors. Wear some old clothes which you don’t mind staining.

Normally after I wash off the mask there is no yellow residue or color on my face. Thanks to the chick pea flour we are adding. But if you are left out with slightly yellow face don’t panic. Cleanse your face using a mild cleanser and the yellow color is gone.

If you feel a slight burning sensation on your face, it is fine. But if the sensation is unbearable wash off the mask immediately using cold water followed by a cold milk rinse. Actually it is a very good idea to wipe off your face with cold milk for removing the yellow color too.

If you have dry skin you can use 1 tsp of olive or almond oil to the mask to make it moisturizing.

The best thing about the turmeric face mask is that it can also be applied underneath your eyes for treating dark circles. You can also use this on your entire body to treat stretch marks and pigmentation during pregnancy.
