LUSH DARK ANGELS REVIEW

Black….Black and more black!

No! No! I am not being  racist here, why I say this, you will know as you read this post. Today I am going to review a Black facial cleanser from Lush cosmetics, which comes in the normal Black pot of Lush and it has a name “dark angels”.  Everything is black about this cleanser!

Lush says about the Dark Angels

Black sugar and charcoal gently exfoliate and absorb excess oils to leave dull, oily or acne-prone skin feeling fresh and matte. Even oily skin can be sensitive, so we’ve made this one soft and soothing to calm redness and irritation, too. Its rhassoul mud base deep-cleanses to help prevent breakouts while vitamin rich cold-pressed organic avocado oil nourishes skin to leave it soft and lightly hydrated. Use all over for perfectly smooth, bright skin. An angel indeed!

Ingredients

Rhassoul Mud , Cold Pressed Organic Avocado Oil (Persea gratissima) , Glycerine , Powdered Charcoal ,Black Sugar (sucrose) , Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate ,Fragrance , Sandalwood Oil (Santalum austro-caledonicum vieill and Fusanus spicatus) , Rosewood oil (Aniba rosaeodora) , *Linalool , *Farnesol . *Occurs naturally in essential oils

Price and availability

Price for 100g is 75AED which is almost 20$ and dark angels can be found at all Lush stores and also online.

My take on the Dark Angels

Solid cleansers always attract me , and if it comes from Lush I ought to try it out, main reason it does not contain any preservatives or parabens. When I picked up Dark angels I had high hopes as with any Lush product. The packaging as said earlier is the normal black pot as all Lush products. I bought the smallest tub. The weight of which is 100g. The color of the cleanser is black and the texture, now I don’t think it has a solid consistency nor liquid it comes somewhere in between, kind of powdery solid (What??) I really like the smell of Dark angels, can’t make out what the smell is, not charcoal anyways, but a nice soothing smell.

The method to use is very simple, take a pea-size on your palm and make a paste by adding warm water. Massage it onto your already dampened skin and rinse off with warm water. I keep it for some time before rinsing for better results.

If you have a white as pearl kind of sink, you are about to faint at this point. Because the application itself is messy, but you can avoid it by taking extra care while applying or making it in a paste form. Even if you take that one step of extra care, your sink is still not safe. Once you rinse off the cleanser, you hardly remember your bathroom sink was once white. It is so messy, leaves black stains all over. Wait, no! that is not the worst part, after rinsing if you expect beautiful glowing immediately and look yourself in the mirror, this time you are definitely fainting, if you missed the chance last time. Why because the dark angels stains not only your sink, it leaves black residue on your face too. Too black that after using it  l have to get another cleanser to remove the stain. I use micellar water to remove the stain, otherwise the black residue refuses to move even if I rinse my face for the 245788990th time irrespective of whether I use normal, cold, warm or even hot water (do not use hot water though). I told you its all black!

Using a toner after cleansing can also help remove stains but not as effectively as a cleanser or micellar water. I think its better to use the dark angels in the shower, and it stains bath tub too.  Forgot to tell, it also gets inside your pores making the situation even worse. The dark angels is not just a facial cleanser, it can also be used for your body. I have used it on my body and it stained my body too!

When using a toner

The above two images are of cotton pads used to remove the stains using micellar water and toner. I am sorry its gross, just wanted to show how mush it stains.

The dark angels is an exfoliating cleanser, but I strongly recommend rubbing with a very light hand. The particles in it are too harsh it can tear your skin (now that is a bit of an exaggeration, but it can damage your skin if you are not gentle). Hence this facial cleanser is not a good choice for people with sensitive skin.

If you ask me why there is too much of negativity today I can point out some really awesome things about the dark angels too. The dark angels leaves my skin smooth and beautiful (after I get rid of the black stain ofcourse). It removes dead skin cells, removes excess oil from my face, but does not leaves my skin dry, it locks in moisture and my skin feels really amazing. No wonder it has such amazing results, the ingredient list is so nice, the main ingredient Rhassoul mud helps to soften the skin, reduce oiliness, remove dead skin cells and tighten pores. Next charcoal helps in cleansing and detoxifying your skin, Avocado oil which helps to moisturize, soften and heal your skin along with the amazing anti-aging properties. Sandalwood oil brighten and lighten skin tone and also in treating blemishes, spots and scars. Rosewood oil has anti-aging benefits. Now if this mask contains all these amazing ingredients it should be showing some awesome results. The girl at Lush said this one is perfect for darker skin as it lightens the complexion, but it did not show any visible change in my complexion, to be honest.

The dark angels has a life of 3 months, after which it will not be suitable to use. When the sales girl told me this, my husband was like come on, this is not going to last until then but after using this for quite some time now, I am damn sure my small pot of 100g will not be over by 3 months, even if I use it every single day, which I do not recommend, since the exfoliation is too harsh to be used everyday.

My final verdict about the Lush Dark Angels and some tips

The dark angels by Lush has definitely improved how my skin look and feel. But even if I ignore how it stains my sink and shower, I cannot neglect the fact that it leaves black residues on my skin. The dark angels really cleanses the impurities on my skin but leaves black residue due to which I have to use another cleanser to remove the stains. So is it really worth it? I don’t think so!Maybe due to the amazing skin benefits, you can use it as a face mask once a while instead of using it as a facial cleanser, but Lush has some really effective face masks like the Love Lettuce I have reviewed a few days back,so maybe it is a better idea to try them out, instead of this cleanser if you do not want to be look like a coal-miner. So my overall opinion would be to just pass. My rating is 3/5.

But if you want to use it for the benefits there are a few tips I would like to share which might help

  • You can mix it with your normal facial cleanser, which reduces the stain, but not completely. It can also help reduce the harshness while exfoliating.
  • Use a very light hand when exfoliating.
  • Rather than using it is a daily cleanser, use the dark angels as a face mask, also let it stay on your face for some time, say 10 minutes for better results.
  • Always use dry hands when scooping out the cleanser, otherwise the product will get damaged.

MY EXPERIENCE AT THE WHITE ROOM SPA,DUBAI (FACIAL AND MANICURE)

If you have been to the Jumeirah Lake Towers, you might already be in love with this part of Dubai, with beautiful man-made lakes, pedestrian-friendly walkways, some of  Dubai’s amazing spas for both men and women and a huge number of cafés and restaurants serving cuisines from around the world. Each time I see the lakes, I am awestruck by its beauty and wonder how real they look! If you haven’t  paid a visit to this latest hotspot  of Dubai, its high time now! I will give you one other fantastic reason why JLT must be in your weekend plans.Today I am going to talk about a hidden gem in the JLT, a white one (Haha) The White Room Spa.

The White Room Spa is located at the lake-side of Al Seef tower 3 in cluster U of the JLT. White Room Spa has two other locations too, in Dubai Marina and also Motor city.I think the JLT branch is the best since they have more treatments available in this branch and the beauty of the JLT adds to your experience.

Once you enter the main entrance of the White Room Spa, you find a very small reception where two beautiful girls are always ready to give their best smiles and help you out wherever possible. There are a number of nail polishes in all possible shades arranged in rows near the reception. They have nail paints from Essie and Ciaté London.

The Beautiful Receptionist

To the left of the reception is a door which opens to the mani-pedi stations. The moment you step inside the spa, you get a calm and relaxed feeling! Mainly due to the beautiful and serene interiors which is mostly white (as the name indicates), white walls, white marble floors and white furniture. The cute pink pillow on top of the  white leather couches add a pop of color. There are a very few products placed neatly on the rack and some towels stacked beautifully which are again white.

We know a great ambiance is so important for a spa, it instantly  lifts up your mood and makes your spa experience even more special. The White Room Spa scores full points in it, the whole setup is simple, everything so neat and tidy. There is a certain amount of tranquility all over. The white everything  does the trick.

Facial treatment at the White Room Spa

I had an appointment for two treatments, a facial and a manicure. The first treatment I received was a very rejuvenating facial, the Le Grand Classique facial treatment, which is a fundamental facial to indulge in once a month to keep the skin healthy and in top condition.

Price for the facial is 350 AED and takes 90 minutes.

The facial was done in a therapy room (obviously) which is a darker room with very dim light! Now we all want it to be dark. The walls are covered by tiles which are brown and dark brown, everything in the room was neatly kept . I loved the big mirror in the room.

The best thing about the White Room Spa is that they use products from the Yon-ka Paris range for their treatments. Yon-Ka is a spa favorite and many hollywood actors swear by it. Yon-ka products are made of ingredients like thyme, lavender, rosemary and geranium essential oils blended with plant extracts. So you can assume the treatment is going to be so energizing and refreshing and not to mention the soothing experience due to the aromatic essential oils.

My facial was done by Ella and she is excellent at it. She started of by giving a short massage to my hands using the soothing Yon-Ka range. Then she asked me to inhale the product which smelled something like menthol and  was so soothing and relaxing. She then removed my make up and then using a cleanser thoroughly cleaned my face. She then used a toner, and later a scrub, which I really loved because it had no granules or particles, nothing at all.  After about two minutes Ella removed the scrub (and also the dead skin cells) by peeling off gently. Next step was exfoliation  followed by blackheads/whiteheads extraction. The next step is my favorite, a relaxing massage for face, neck and neck line. And Ella’s one touch proves how experienced she is! The massage was so gentle, I felt so sleepy. Then she massaged the eye contours, which was much needed for a sleep-deprived mommy like me. After the massage,it was time for the mask. The mask was a purifying and hydrating mask. Once the mask was removed, a very hydrating moisturizer was massaged on to the skin.

The next highlight of this treatment was the neck and upper back massage after the face treatment. The massage relieved all my tensions and I was in pure tranquility. I liked that throughout the treatment Ella didn’t talk much. Now, who wants to talk  amidst a relaxing and pampering session. All we want is relax and relax. But Ella definitely  made it a point to let me know each step she was doing.  To be honest, I didn’t want the facial to end, I want to stay there forever.

Once I stepped out of the treatment room, I was a different person, more relaxed and calm. I almost forgot everything else. It was like meditation for my skin.

Results of the Le Grand Classique facial

After my  facial was done, my skin felt so refreshed and pampered. My skin was soft and smooth. Now that its been a few days after the session, my skin still feels soft, my skin tone is improved and my skin is glowing.

Manicure

Next I had to do my nails. I was taken to the manicure station and we are back to the sophisticated white world. A soothing music was playing which is a concentration production music. I loved the candles which were placed at the side of the mani-pedi stations. The whole set-up was mind blowing. Ritu did my nails and it was so pretty.  Ritu was a very friendly person and she really knows how to do her job well. Ritu also gave a hand and shoulder massage, which was so good.

Price for a manicure session is 65 AED and takes 30 minutes.

I am so obsessed with candles!

Final verdict

I really enjoyed the experience at the White Room Spa! The Le Grand Classique facial treatment was so refreshing and rejuvenating. My skin definitely felt pampered and is glowing till now. I also liked the neck and upper back massage which was complimentary. Speaking about the manicure, it was perfect and beautiful. The spa itself is a great experience! I highly recommend The White Room Spa Dubai.
